  • Kurt Mahler in memory of Dean Levin and a wonderful vacation on Lynx Lake.

  • Gary Gruca and Sheila Wertimer in memory of Dr. David Hora –

Lynx lake is different now for me with Dave Hora no longer on its’ shores. Dave was a fixture on the lake. His house on “Hora’s Point”, where his wife Sue still lives, was akin to a lighthouse. At night you could see the lights from the den which always helped navigate the boat. “Just make sure you give Hora’s point wide berth to avoid the rocks”, I’d tell my son. Or on a warm summer’s evening, one could hear the baseball game permeating from Dave’s porch. Occasionally you could even hear Dave as he cheered on his beloved Chicago Cubs or Bears. But it is Dave fishing on the lake that I miss the most. He was an avid fisherman. Weather was no obstacle for Dave. Rain or shine you could find Dave’s boat on the lake. We’d often compare notes. “Catch any Dave?” , I’d ask and he’d reply, “a few but nothing of size”. On several occasions, however , I’d see Dave’s boat racing towards me. He’d wave to get my attention, and then hoist a giant bass from the live well smiling like he’d just won the lottery.  I miss seeing Dave on the lake, but the bass most likely don’t!!
