PI Wake boat ordinance – action requested!

Posted January 17, 2021 by Fritz Behr in Uncategorized / 2 Comments

The Presque Isle Town Board is in the process of determining whether to regulate wake boats on Presque Isle Lakes. Wake boats are recreational boats that are designed or modified to generate extraordinary large wakes for activities such as wake surfing, wake jumping, or wake boarding.

The extraordinarily large wakes produced by wake boats can endanger other boaters, paddlers, and swimmers, damage shoreline structures, erode shoreline, stir up bottom sediment, negatively impact habitat for fish and wildlife, and diminish water quality.

The Town Board is interested in determining how Presque Isle Property Owners feel about regulating wake boats.  If you would like to go on record to the town board either pro or con for regulating wake boats, please email Lorine at lwalters@piwi.us. One or two sentences will do it. For example:

‘I support implementing an ordinance to regulate wake boats’ or

‘I do not support any ordinance to regulate wake boats’.

Please do not go on for multiple sentences, paragraphs or pages. In the past, emails collected in this manner are counted and can affect the outcome.

Because comments will only be taken from PI residents/property owners (don’t have to be a permanent resident) please include your name and fire number address. The names will be crosschecked to lists of residents or property owners to prevent non-residents from muddying the waters.

Wake Boats would be a big set back in protecting our shoreline because of their excessive erosion. They have no place on Lynx Lake.
