Change of Plans

Summer 2021

Friends of Lynx Lake,

There has been a change of plans for this year’s Annual Meeting. We have decided to once again postpone our meeting out of an abundance of caution. We will, however, be holding an outdoor workshop featuring noted naturalist and author John Bates. Allow me to elaborate.

Patty and Pete Bunce had generously offered to host this year’s Annual Property Owner’s Meeting. Both Pete and Patty were fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine, but unfortunately despite being vaccinated, they both recently contracted Covid-19 and suspect it was the highly contagious Delta version. Thankfully neither were hospitalized and are now feeling better, but they were absolutely miserable for two weeks. They suffered from extreme fatigue, a chronic cough, and long lasting painful headaches. Obviously, Patty and Pete do not wish anyone to go through what they did.

Believing the adage of “better safe than sorry”, and considering the demographics of the property owners along with the presence of the highly contagious Delta Covid variant in the State, we thought it prudent to postpone our annual meeting once again.

Instead of our traditional indoor meeting at a house on Lynx Lake, we are going to have an OUTDOOR workshop, which will allow for better social distancing and adherence to health protocols. John Bates will speak about old growth forests in northern Wisconsin. We are very fortunate that as a backdrop to his talk, with property owners Al and Cathy Hentzen’s permission, we will meet at the old growth hemlock forest near the end of McDowell Road. If you have never had the opportunity to see the Hentzen’s impressive old growth Hemlock forest, this is a wonderful opportunity, especially with John Bates leading the tour.

We will gather at the turnaround spot at the end of McDowell Road on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 4th at 10:00 A.M., weather permitting. The workshop will take about an hour. It is recommended that you wear comfortable shoes, and if possible, bring a folding chair to sit on. We will be providing water. I am confident that this will be both an educational and enjoyable experience.

Look for a postcard reminder to arrive in your mail, and we will also be posting more information about John Bates on our website at lynxlakepi.com. I look forward to seeing you there.

Best,

Gary Gruca
